Supermarket wines are stronger than ever this Christmas, with brilliant value across sparkling styles if you know where to look. Two bottles stand out immediately: Veuve Monsigny Champagne from Aldi offers exceptional quality for under £15, with a style that feels far more premium than its price tag. Contevedo Cava is another reliable sparkling, vibrant, savoury and refreshing, ideal for festive parties and seafood or cheese boards.
These are the kinds of bottles that make Christmas entertaining easier, affordable and great quality, Below, I’ve highlighted why they deserve a place in your December shopping basket and how to enjoy them through the season, from Christmas Eve on the sofa to Boxing Day brunch.
An absolute gem at a fantastic price. It’s often hard to get such good quality for less than £15, but this reminds me of Ruinart’s style – fresh, steely, elegant, bioche and powerful. I highly recommend stocking up before it’s gone! It offers great value for money and is an ideal gift to take to a party or for your family Christmas (or even just a glass to yourself on your sofa on Christmas Eve)!
Another standout from Aldi’s sparkling range. Cava often flies under the radar, but this is an unsung hero, especially for winter gatherings. I drink lots of it in the summer and think its great for the winter too. Most Cava comes from the Penedès region, just outside Barcelona, it’s savoury, refreshing and citrus. Really easy to enjoy and it’s the perfect sparkling to serve with seafood or a cheese board. For that price, it’s an unbeatable option.
