How Many Glasses in a Bottle of Prosecco?

And how much fizz do you really need for a welcome reception?

A standard bottle of Prosecco is 750ml. From one bottle, you will typically pour around six glasses at 125ml, which is the hospitality benchmark. Alternatively, you might get five more generous 150ml glasses, or seven to eight smaller reception pours of around 100ml.

When planning events, I always calculate on six glasses per bottle. It keeps numbers accurate, service consistent, and budgets under control.

If you are serving a short, 15-minute welcome drink, where guests are moving fairly quickly to dinner or a presentation, it is best to assume one glass per person. In this case, one bottle will serve six guests. For example, 60 guests would require 10 bottles, while 120 guests would need 20. One glass is usually enough in this setting, provided it is well chilled and service is seamless. A measured 125ml pour feels polished — overfilling never does.

If you are hosting a longer, 45-minute welcome reception, where guests are standing and networking without an immediate call to sit down, consumption naturally increases. In this scenario, plan for between one and a half to two glasses per person, meaning one bottle will serve around three to four guests. For example, 60 guests having one and a half glasses each would require around 15 bottles, while two glasses each would increase this to 20 bottles.

Sparkling wine disappears quickly. It is the first drink of the evening and often the most refreshing, so it tends to be consumed faster than anything else. It is almost always better to have slightly more than not enough. Fizz has a way of quietly evaporating in guests’ glasses, particularly when it sets the tone for the evening.

From corporate events, a few patterns consistently stand out. Midweek events — particularly Tuesday through Thursday — tend to see higher consumption, as guests relax after long working days. When there is no food, refills happen more quickly, and warm weather will always increase how much people drink. Senior client audiences often drink steadily and confidently, and interestingly, midweek networking events frequently outperform Fridays.

Under-ordering sparkling wine can shift the mood of an event almost immediately. Having a few extra bottles quietly in reserve creates a sense of ease and generosity, and no one ever complains that there was too much Prosecco. Magnums are also worth considering, as they reduce the need for frequent bottle changes, look impressive, and can make service feel more seamless.

Temperature is equally important. Properly chilled Prosecco tastes fresher, cleaner, and far more refined, so it is always worth prioritising this detail.

As a quick guide, for 60 guests, a 15-minute welcome drink typically requires around 10 bottles. A lighter 45-minute reception would need approximately 15 bottles, while a more generous pour increases this to around 20. Adding a small buffer of 5–10% is always a sensible approach and is rarely wasted.

So, how many glasses of Prosecco are in a bottle?

Six is your baseline. From there, consider timing, audience, and format. Sparkling wine sets the tone for the entire event — plan generously, and everything begins exactly as it should.
