A gift for you, my favourite supermarket wines of 2025
As a thank you for reading and supporting this newsletter throughout the year, I wanted to share something practical and genuinely useful: my favourite supermarket wines you can buy right now.

    You’re getting the first look.

I’ve picked stand-out bottles from Sainsbury’s, Aldi, and The Wine Society; brilliant wines from £5 to £20, all easy to find, all excellent value.

Think crisp whites for seafood, generous reds for winter suppers, and a couple of sparkling options perfect for last-minute festive hosting. These are the bottles I reach for myself, and the ones I recommend most often when people ask what to buy on a normal weeknight without overthinking it.

You’ll find the full list, tasting notes and pairings on my blog, do have a look, save it, and share it with anyone who needs quick, confident supermarket choices this month.

Thank you again for being here. Your support makes this newsletter a joy to write, and I can’t wait to share more with you in the new year.

From your shopping basket to the mountains, a March escape worth planning

There’s something lovely about ending the year with easy, great-value wines… and starting the next with something extraordinary to look forward to.

If you’re thinking about a winter break, the Dolomites in Italy is one of the most remarkable ski-and-wine experiences you can have.

Most British skiers still book France or Switzerland. I understand it, I grew up skiing the Three Valleys, Val d’Isère, the Espace Killy and Verbier. But once you ski the Dolomites, everything changes.

The Dolomites are not a small resort - you have 1,200km of pistes, modern lifts, perfectly groomed runs and some of the most striking scenery in the Alps. Long ski days feel effortless, and the light, that soft, golden Dolomite glow, is unforgettable.

Then there’s the food. Fresh fish flown into mountain huts daily including oysters, turbot, prawns alongside homemade pasta and regional cooking. It’s elegant, comforting and far removed from the token mountain fare many of us skiers are used to.

Dining in the Dolomites is a joy in itself, with more Michelin star restaurants too!

This season, if you want to experience the region at its best, there’s a brilliant long weekend worth considering: the Wine SkiSafari Weekend in Alta Badia, running 20 to 23 March 2026, curated by Skiworld in partnership with Alta Badia.

It’s a luxury three-night Dolomites escape combining world-class skiing with wine tasting, gourmet mountain dining and the famous Wine Ski Safari, a hut-to-hut tasting of over 60 South Tyrolean wines, set against panoramic alpine views and live music. It’s one of the most unique events in the skiing calendar.

It’s a wonderfully curated, all-inclusive weekend designed for people who love good skiing, good food and good wine in equal measure.
