My current favourites… and honestly, they’re world-class.
My Favourite English Sparkling:
Weyborne Oriana Golden Spur
The latest release from the talented wine maker Ben Abric at Weyborne. You can enjoy this as an aperitif, its lifted citrus, orchard fruit full of energy makes it fun to drink with smoked salmon bellinis all afternoon. It would be equally at home with grilled seabass because of the subtle oxidative winemaking adds depth and complexity to this wine with a savoury nuance. You’ll find it at Noma and Harrods — and it’s easily one of the best English sparklings out there. I’m obsessed.
My Favourite English Still White: Danbury Ridge Chardonnay 2018
A family run vineyard in Essex and genuinely this wine rivals Burgundy. Silky, expressive lemon-curd, struck match, toasted citrus, nutmeg and honeydew melon. Plus a beautiful bottle.
2023 vintage available but I'm aging mine and its 2018.
Two English wines absolutely at the top of their game… 5/5. Which one are you trying first?
