Visiting Antinori winery in Tuscany, Italy

Visiting the world-famous winery, Antinori nel Chianti Classico in Tuscany, Italy, is an extraordinary experience that immerses you in the rich history and breathtaking beauty of the region. With a winemaking legacy spanning over six centuries, Antinori is deeply rooted in the Tuscan winemaking tradition.

Nestled between the cities of Florence and Siena, Antinori is situated in a captivating landscape adorned with rolling hills and lush forests. The architectural design of the winery harmoniously blends with its natural surroundings, creating a truly awe-inspiring setting that captivates visitors from the moment they arrive.

Today, the Antinori family's winemaking legacy is carried forward by the three Antinori sisters, who have embraced their role as the custodians of this esteemed business. Renowned for their exquisite wines, such as the Sciacca and Tignolino, the sisters have continued the family's commitment to quality and innovation.

Interestingly, Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex, drew inspiration from the Antinori family by naming her former blog ‘The TIG’, which pays homage to the family's contributions to Tuscan winemaking, particularly their introduction of international grape varieties like Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, which have played a significant role in crafting outstanding Chianti wines.

During a delightful lunch at Rinuccio 1180 (the winery restaurant), an array of remarkable wines graced the table. One standout was the Blanc de Blanc Franciacorta, a sparkling wine aged for an impressive 30-36 months using the traditional Champagne method. This exquisite wine showcases Antinori's expertise in producing exceptional sparkling wines, offering a delightful balance of flavours and a refined character. A delicate flavour profile that is refreshing and light. Crisp with a bouquet of apples and pears and notes of flowers and citrus fruits. An elegant choice for any occasion. Available from VINVM for £31.45.

Another notable wine that left a lasting impression was the Chianti Classico Reserva 2010. The term "Reserva" indicates that this particular vintage has been aged for an additional year, enhancing its complexity and depth. With its striking red colour and vibrant aromas of ripe sour cherries, this wine exudes freshness and charm. Its delicate and light nature is complemented by grippy tannins that add structure to the wine, making it an excellent choice for both savouring on its own or pairing with a delectable meal. Available from Laithwaites for £46.00.

Visiting Antinori in Tuscany provides an opportunity to enter into the world of fine winemaking, appreciate the rich history of the Antinori family, savouring exceptional wines that embody the essence and prestigious history of this renowned wine region.
